THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The suspended Registrar of the University of Kerala, Dr. KS Anil Kumar, has defied the order of Kerala University Vice Chancellor Dr. Mohanan Kunnummal to return the official car. Anil Kumar, who arrived at the university in an official vehicle yesterday, clarified that he does not have his own vehicle.

The VC had instructed the security officer to take the keys from the driver and keep the car in the university garage. However, the registrar's stance was that this would not be accepted. The security officer reported to the VC that Dr. Anil Kumar informed him that since his suspension was withdrawn by the syndicate, he was continuing in his position as registrar and therefore there was no legal impediment to using the car.

Meanwhile, the VC excluded Dr. Anil Kumar from the meeting of the Centre for Global Academies regarding admission of foreign students to the university. Dr. Anil Kumar had attended the meeting held online under the chairmanship of the VC. However, the VC had suggested that Anil Kumar be excluded. Dr. Mini Kappan, who was handed over the charge of the Registrar by the VC, attended the meeting. Raj Bhavan clarified that it has been noticed that the VC's orders are being continuously violated and that if there is a situation where the VC is unable to carry out his duties, it will be taken seriously.

93 Foreign Students

The Centre for Global Academies meeting decided to admit 93 foreign students to various colleges of the university. The central government has permitted 90 students to study and will bear the entire cost. Three students will bear the expenses themselves. 2620 foreign students had applied to study at the University of Kerala. Most of the 93 students got admission in BA, B.Com and MA courses. Most of them are from Arab countries, Africa, Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
