KOLLAM: Hours after the tragic death of 13-year-old Midhun in Kollam, Kerala government decided to build a new house for the victim’s kin. The house will be provided under the leadership of Scouts and Guides. The government had earlier announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the family in the first phase. Midhun comes from a poor family, and his house is already on the verge of collapse.

Midhun's mother, Suja, took a job as a home nurse in Kuwait just three months ago to help her family come out of poverty.

Relatives say that Suja, who is abroad, has not yet been informed of the tragic death. The family that Suja was working for has gone on vacation in Turkey, and they have also taken Suja along. Midhun's father, Manu, is a daily wage earner. Despite registering their name in the LIFE mission, they were denied permission for a new house.

Class eight student Midhun died on Thursday morning after getting electrocuted near his school premises. Midhun’s slippers fell on top of the bicycle shed near the school while playing football. To pick it, the schoolboy got on top of the shed but accidentally rested his arms on the electric wire that was dangerously hanging low.
