Award-winning architect R K Remesh no more
KOZHIKODE: Prominent architect R.K. Remesh passed away on Thursday at a private hospital in Kozhikode following a heart attack. He was 79. It was his genius behind the iconic designs of many important institutions in various places in Kerala, including Mananchira Square, Thunchan Memorial and Sarovaram Park.
He was the Chairman and Executive Director of Shelter-Guidance Centre for Cost-Effective Systems of Construction for Affordable Housing. He was also the Executive Director of 'Bhavanam' Charitable Society.
Ramesh won the first National Architecture Award from the Indian Institute of Architects in 1989. He received the Nirman Pratibha Award in 2010 and many other accolades, including the Award for Excellence in Low Cost Housing from the Indian Institute of Architects, Thiruvananthapuram, and the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Southern Regional Conference of the Indian Institute of Architects. He was nominated by the government as a member of the Kerala Lalitha Kala Akademi and the Kerala Sahitya Akademi.
Remesh hails from Haripad Chingoli. After graduating in Architecture from Kerala University, he shifted to Kozhikode for work and continued his tryst with the city for the past 55 years. He lived with his family in Jayanthi Nagar Housing Colony near Kozhikode beach.

The funeral will be held today at 11.30 am at Mavoor Road Crematorium, Kozhikode.
