Separated from husband and started living together with another youth; woman killed by partner after refusing to enter sex work
AMARAVATI: A 22-year-old woman from Andhra Pradesh's Konaseema district, who had been living in a live-in relationship after parting ways with her husband, was allegedly murdered by her partner under disturbing circumstances. The victim, identified as Pushpa, was killed by her live-in partner Sheikh Shamma after she reportedly refused his demand to engage in sex work for financial gain, police said. A search operation is currently underway to trace the accused.
The incident occurred at Pushpa’s residence in Siddhartha Nagar. Police reports indicate that Pushpa had separated from her husband about six months ago and later entered into a relationship with Sheikh. The couple began living together after renting a house, but their relationship soon turned turbulent.
According to officials, frequent arguments broke out between the two, with Sheikh accusing Pushpa of having extramarital affairs. The situation escalated when Sheikh allegedly attempted to coerce her into sex work, leading to further strain in their relationship. Amidst these tensions, Sheikh allegedly tried to force Pushpa into sex work and into having relationships with multiple men to make quick money. Pushpa strongly opposed this and returned to her family home.
On Wednesday night, Sheikh came to Pushpa’s house and once again tried to convince her to come with him, reiterating his demand for her to work as a sex worker. When she refused again, a heated argument followed.
Pushpa’s mother and brother intervened, which led to a physical altercation. In the midst of the chaos, Sheikh attacked Pushpa — stabbing her in the left side of her chest and leg with a knife. She died due to excessive bleeding.
