SHARJAH: Satheesh Shankar, husband of Athulya, who committed suicide in Sharjah, said that he tried to keep his wife close to him as he had no one else and that they were possessive. She didn’t like him talking to other people or going out. Satheesh while talking to the media said because of that he did not even talk to his own mother.

He said, 'Athulya accompanies him wherever he goes. My elder brother’s death in 2022 was something he couldn’t bear. Issues started after Athulya aborted their second baby in last November. She was three months pregnant. She aborted the baby without my permission when she went home. I don’t know why she did that. Her mother went with her. I turned a different person after that. I am 40 now and I am diabetic. She said that if another child comes, it will be a problem.

I buy liquor during weekends. After having food, a friend of mine called me and so I went out. She had called me then. I didn't mind because she usually calls me when I go out. She then showed me the video of a fan and said that she was going to commit suicide. I immediately came home. The door locked was found opened. I entered inside and saw her hanging from the fan. Her legs were almost touching the floor. I did everything as I was told when called the emergency number. The police came. I went to the station and told everything.

Our bed was found out of place when I came back. Not only that, a knife was also there. There were eight to seven black masks on top of the fridge. I got a button from the bed and it was not mine. There is mystery in her death. She has suffered a lot and she would never commit suicide.

She wanted a divorce from me. Lived in Sharjah for her. My drinking was not the issue, something else happened to her. I had asked to check the camera. If it is not a murder then it could be a mistake from her side. She may have done it to scare me. I also tried to commit suicide, but my legs were touching the bed. I am not saying that I have not abused her, if I was an alcoholic, she could have deserted me,' said Satheesh.
