KSEB negligence takes two more lives; death due to electrocution from broken electric lines; accidents in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM/KOZHIKODE: Two people died tragically in Kerala when electric wires snapped and fell, before the sorrow of the death of Mithun, an eighth-grade student, after being electrocuted at Thevalakkara Boys School in Kollam, has subsided. It is alleged that the accident occurred in both places due to the negligence of KSEB.
The deceased are a young man from Nedumangad in Thiruvananthapuram, who was returning home on a bike with two friends and a housewife from Koyilandy, Kozhikode. Akshay Suresh (19), a third-year graduate student, son of Suresh Kumar and Shalini, of Ajaya Vilas, Panayamuttom, Nedumangad, died at 11:45 p.m. on Saturday. His friends barely escaped. They also suffered an electric shock while trying to save Akshay. The accident took place on the Panavoor-Panayamuttom road.
Akshay was returning from a catering job at a wedding house in Pirappancode with his friends Amalnath (19) and Vinod (29). Akshay was riding the bike. They did not notice in the rain that a dry branch of a rubber tree on private property on the roadside had broken off, causing electric wires and a concrete post to fall on the road.
Akshay's leg got caught in the crash guard of the bike that hit the tree branch, and he fell onto a broken power line. Vinod and Amalnath fell to the other side of the road. Hearing the screams of the youth, the locals who arrived used helmets to remove the power line. They took Akshay to the hospital, but they could not save him. The funeral was held in the house compound.
Akshay's brother, Arjun Suresh, is a videographer. Their father, Suresh, was a wage labourer and had health issues, so it was his children who were taking care of the family. Akshay was studying for his degree through a distance education course along with his job.

Protest against KSEB
The Youth Congress marched to the Panavoor KSEB office, alleging that the accident occurred due to the failure to cut the rubber tree in Nedumangad that was in a dangerous condition. The march resulted in a scuffle with the police.
Fathima's relatives alleged that despite repeated requests to the KSEB to replace the electricity line passing over their house in Koyilandy, no action was taken.
