Used to check in at lodge every month, Akhila paid bills; things turned ugly when she asked Binu to marry her
ALUVA: Further details have come to light in the case involving the murder of a woman by her lover inside a lodge room. The incident took place on Sunday night at Thottunkal Lodge in Aluva, where Akhila (35), a native of Kundara, Kollam, was found murdered. Binu (37), a native of Neriyamangalam in Idukki, who was present with her at the time, later surrendered to the police. He is currently in the custody of Aluva Police. More information about the relationship between Akhila and Binu has now surfaced.
Reportedly, Akhila had insisted that Binu marry her, leading to an argument between the two. Binu's refusal to agree to the marriage proposal led to a confrontation. During the altercation, Binu strangled Akhila with a shawl, killing her. He later informed his friends, who then alerted the Aluva Police. Though Binu initially called a friend to confess, the friend did not believe him — prompting Binu to video call and show the scene to convince him.
It has also been revealed that over the past year, Akhila and Binu had been regularly renting rooms at the same lodge, about once or twice a month. They often stayed together for up to five days before leaving. Akhila typically made the booking and paid for the room, contacting the lodge herself.
She had informed the lodge staff that she would be arriving on Sunday evening. At around 8 PM, both Binu and Akhila checked in. Binu, who arrived first, appeared to be intoxicated. Around 9:30 PM, he went to the reception to ask for drinking water. Police believe that he returned to the room afterwards and committed the murder. It was also discovered that Akhila had booked the room on July 3rd. However, when the lodge staff called her that day, she claimed that Binu had started an argument at Aluva railway station and stormed off in anger.
