‘If accused politicians can contest polls, then actors facing allegations too can contest’
All actors of the Malayalam film industry have come forward for the upcoming elections in AMMA. Everyone has filed their nominations for the elections to be held on August 15. Actress Ansiba Hassan, who is contesting for the joint secretary post said the increase in the number of candidates is a good sign for the organization.
Ansiba said the activities of the ad-hoc committee have encouraged many members to contest and this has created a healthy competition. Actor Jagadheesh, contesting for the president’s post, have sought the support of members. Reports said Kunchacko Boban and Vijayaraghavan were initially considered as top contenders.
Joy Mathew will contest against Baburaj, facing opposition due to allegations, for the post of general secretary. Ansiba Hassan is among the candidates contesting for this post. A section is of the opinion that Baburaj should not be contested since allegations have been levelled against him.
However, people like Raveendran said those arraigned should not contest. Ansiba told media that if accused politicians can contest polls, then no one can stop actors facing allegations from contesting.
Sexual allegations against some members of AMMA in the Hema Committee report led to the fresh elections. This led to the resignation of the entire executive committee. Former president Mohanlal also voluntarily left the organization. After this, an ad-hoc committee was formed to manage the affairs of the organization until the fresh elections.
