How did Govindachamy jump jail, took days to cut iron bars in cell, serious lapse on side of jail authorities
KANNUR: The jail authorities are blamed for the security lapse in the Kannur jail which led to the escape of notorious criminal Govindachamy. The question arises as how Govindachamy, who was in a high-security jail, was able to cut the iron rod of the jail cell. It would have taken at least an hour to cut the iron rod of the cell. It is a serious lapse on the side of the jail for not paying attention to the sound or other movements. It is also not clear whether he took days to cut the rod. He may have squeezed himself and got out through it.
It is not clear from where he got the weapon to cut the rod or who brought the weapon. It is also possible that he may have taken advantage of the heavy rains that have lashing the city for the past few days. The prisoners are taken back to the cell at 5 pm. He jumped jail at 1:30 am. It is clear from the CCTV footage of the prison that Govindachamy from high security prison, walked through the quarantine block and reached the wall here. He then made a rope using cloth and threw it to the fencing and jumped the wall.
It is clear that he took several days to collect the cloth to tie the rope. This raises suspicions that the authorities did not notice this. Since Govindachamy could not have escaped without crossing the two walls of the prison, many people are suspicious of how Govindachamy managed to escape alone. There are also hints that he may have used the drinking water cans in the 10th block to jump the wall. He is housed alone in a cell in Block B. There is a small wall around this block and a large wall outside it.
There will be patrolling in the prison at night. However, the authorities checked each cell after seeing the rope lying on the wall. Only when they reached the block where he was housed, the prison authorities realized that it was Govindachamy who had escaped. By then, three hours had passed. Then they searched the prison premises and other areas. The police confirmed the jail break at 6 am. Then, at 7 am, the police started a search by sending information all over the state. By then, six hours had passed since he escaped. Then, at 10.30 am, Govindachamy was caught from an empty well.
