74 actors have filed nominations to contest in the elections of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA). Six including women have filed nominations for the president’s post. The full details of the panels will be available only after July 31st. The elections will be held in Kochi on August 15. Jagadheesh, Shwetha Menon, Raveendran, Devan, Anoop Chandran, Jayan Cherthala and Raveendran have filed nominations for the post of president. Jagadeesh and Devan are the most seniors in the race.

Although senior actors requested that there be a youth leadership in 'AMMA', prominent young actors have not come forward. Joy Mathew's nomination for the post of president was rejected. Sources close to Joy Mathew clarified that he did not sign the declaration in the nomination paper as he opted out for Jagadheesh. Joy Mathew's nomination for the executive committee has been accepted.

Asha Aravind, Lakshmi Priya, Navya Nair, Kukku Parameswaran, Nassar Latheef, and Unni Sivapal have filed their nominations for the post of vice president. Ansiba, Jayan Cherthala, and Anoop Chandran have filed their nominations for the post of joint secretary. The election of office bearers in AMMA is sure to be a tough one this time. Sarayu, Vinu Mohan, Tini Tom, Ananya, Kailash and others are also contesting for various posts. Anoop Chandran, Jayan Cherthala and Raveendran have filed their nominations for all posts.

AMMA leadership was dissolved after the Hema Committee report was released and sexual harassment complaints were raised against the members of the organization's governing body. The stage was set for the election after Mohanlal announced in the last general meeting that he would not continue as president. An ad hoc committee is leading the activities until a new panel is elected. This is the first time in the 32-year history that so many people have come forward to contest. 110 actors have presently bought the nomination papers.
