KANNUR: The police arrested the notorious criminal Govindachamy, who jumped jail, a few hours ago. Unnikrishnan, a security guard of National Statistical Office and a former soldier, first saw Govindachamy hiding in the well of Kumar Building in Thalap. He conducted a search following information that Govindachamy was in the area.

‘We joined the police in the search operations since we heard the news in the morning. We did not see anyone in the well in the beginning. Then came the news that he has been nabbed. Then everyone went to the other side. However, after some time came the news that he has not been nabbed. On feeling suspicious, I came and looked into the well, then saw him hanging from a rope. He threatened me of dire consequences. He then told me that he would stab me to death if I uttered a word. He threatened me in Malayalam mixed with Tamil. However, I informed the others. When I made a big noise, the police rushed to the spot,’ said Unnikrishnan.

He jumped into the well after seeing the police and the locals. He was wearing black pants and was shirtless. He will be questioned in detail. An investigation will be conducted to know whether he got the help from someone in the prison to jump the wall.
