THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Govindachamy, who escaped from Kannur Central Jail, has made a preliminary statement that he planned for a month and a half for his jailbreak. Govindachamy made the revelation during police interrogation. The accused said that it took him about a month and a half to cut the bars of the jail. He also stated that he tied them with cloth so that the marks of cutting the bars would not be visible from the outside. It has been revealed that he used milk jugs and drums to jump over the jail wall.

Govindachamy's primary goal after escaping from prison was to reach Guruvayur and commit theft. The police also say that Govindachamy planned to escape to other states with the stolen money. He has given a statement that he reached Talap because he did not know exactly where the railway station was. Govindachamy has revealed that he was in contact with some people outside the prison. The police will investigate whether more people were involved in the incident. The police are also examining the security lapses on the part of the prison authorities.

Govindachamy escaped from the Kannur maximum security jail early this morning. He was later caught from a well in an uninhabited house compound in a daring search that followed. Four officials of the Kannur Central Jail have been suspended pending investigation in connection with Govindachamy's jailbreak. Jail chief Balram Kumar Upadhyay responded that the jail officials had made an error. Kannur Central Jail Assistant Superintendent Rijo, Deputy Prison Officer Rajish, and Assistant Prison Officers Sanjay and Akhil have been suspended.
