KOCHI: Writer K. R. Meera has extended her support to Sandra Thomas, who is contesting for the position of President in the Kerala Film Producers’ Association. Meera expressed her support through a Facebook post, writing: 'If I had a vote in the Producers’ Association, my vote would go to Sandra Thomas.'

Sandra had filed her nomination for the post of president earlier today. She arrived to file her nomination wearing a purdah, which she reasoned was to avoid hard stares from certain individuals. The elections in the organisation are scheduled for the 14th of next month.

“In this association where the current office bearers are sitting, I came in this attire because I felt that this was the most appropriate attire. I learnt my lessons from my previous traumatic experiences. It is my way of protesting, too. The court filed a charge sheet against four people after I raised a serious allegation. Yet they continue to be administrators here. Moreover, they themselves are contesting for the next term as president and secretary. This attire is part of my protest.

The first accused, Anto Joseph, is the president. The second accused, B. Ragesh, is the secretary. It is not a safe place for a woman. The organisation has been monopolised by 10 to 15 people over the years. There must be a change. I have spoken to many people in the organisation, and there is a strong anti-incumbency sentiment. My name was first proposed by my father, who is a producer, and seconded by Sheila Chechi,” Sandra Thomas stated.
