THANE: A 27-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly poisoning her three minor daughters to death in Maharashtra’s Thane on July 20. The police have arrested Sandhya Sandeep Bere, a housewife living in Talepada in Asnoli village under Shahapur area of the district. Another child was shifted to a hospital in Nashik, but that child also succumbed to death on July 24.

The police registered a case of accidental death initially. The postmortem report, which came on Saturday night, found traces of poison in the children's bodies, so they registered a murder case. The police registered a murder case against the woman and arrested her at 2 am on Sunday.

Police said the accused was facing constant harassment and was fed up of her husband’s liquor consumption. She was estranged from her husband and was struggling to take care of them and this led her to take the extreme step. Her in-laws had raised suspicions about the children's deaths. The police said that the woman was first taken into custody for questioning and was later arrested after the postmortem report came.
