Student electrocuted while bathing in stream in Malappuram; total death toll on Sunday reaches three
MALAPPURAM: A student was electrocuted to death in Vengara on Sunday. Abdul Wadood (18), a native of Vengara, died of electric shock from a broken electric wire that was lying unnoticed in the stream he was bathing. With this, the deaths due to electrocution on Sunday alone in Kerala reached three.
This morning, an elderly woman was found dead of electric shock in front of her house in Attingal. The victim is Leelamani (87), a native of Poovanpara. She was electrocuted from the line that connected the electric post to her house. Leelamani and her disabled daughter Aswathy, were the only ones living in the house.
Yesterday evening, Leelamani had gone to a nearby electrician's house to ask for his help to restore power in her house. When the electrician reached Leelamani's house this morning, he found her dead in front of the house. The electric wire was entangled in her hand. Aswathy was found locked inside the house.
A farmer also died after being electrocuted by a KSEB power line that fell into his plot. Marimuthu, a native of Kodumba Olassery in Palakkad, died in the incident. According to locals, the accident occurred when he went to pick coconuts from his plot. It is assumed that he may have accidentally stepped onto the wire lying unnoticed on the ground.
