THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Legendary filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan rooted for Congress leader Shashi Tharoor as he said the latter possessed talents tad higher than average Malayalees, and pointed this out for the current political envy games targeting the Thiruvananthapuram MP.

Adoor Gopalakrishnan was presenting the Kesavadev Literary Award of the P. Kesavadev Memorial Trust to Shashi Tharoor.'

Adoor Gopalakrishnan:

“It is a Malayali trait not to accept anyone who grows beyond the threshold level of success. It is for the same reason that many are finding it difficult to accept Tharoor. Many people find it difficult to understand Tharoor.

Malayalees rarely get to watch the clear sky. For watching a wide and clear sky, one must cross Thuckalay and reach Kanyakumari. The geographical reason may be a hindrance. Malayalees have become accustomed to accepting only average individuals. However, whatever it is, Tharoor’s achievements and scholarly works will remain the same, and will do the talking."

The P. Kesavadev Diabscreen Award for meritorious service in the health sector was presented to diabetologist and global health leader Dr. Banshi Saboo. Kesavadev Trust Managing Trustee Dr. Jyothidev Kesavadev, Dr. George Onakkur, Dr. Vijayakrishnan, actors Maniyanpilla Raju, Sunitha Jyothidev, Dr. Arunshankar and others spoke at the event.
