Crucial turning point in Dharmasthala; Skeletal remains found in burial site No 6
BENGALURU: A vital turning point in connection with the revelation of a former sanitation worker of burying multiple bodies of sexual assault victims at Dharmasthala in Karnataka. Human skeletal remains were found while exhuming the places mentioned by the witness. The remains were found when dug at a depth of two feet at spot number 6.
Indian Express has reported that the investigation team suspects that the body is that of a male. This is the first time that remains have been found during the examination that has been going on for the past two days. The forensic team present at the site has collected the remains for further examination. The officials said that clarity will be obtained only after conducting a detailed forensic examination.
The first point at these places, located on the banks of the Nethravathi river, was dug in the presence of the witness last Tuesday. Following the waterlogging, officials, forensic experts and revenue department employees dug deeply using a JCB, but no remains were found at the site.
The sanitation worker revealed about the brutal sexual assaults and murders that took place over a 16-year period in the first week of this month. The rapes were between 1998 and 2014. The victims included schoolgirls. He also said that he was forced to bury the bodies of the victims secretly.
He revealed that he was ready to report these things to the police and file a complaint during his working days, but backed out due to severe threats and harassment. He worked as a sanitation worker under the Dharmasthala temple administration. He approached the police after a decade, feeling guilty and wanting justice for the victims.
