KOLLAM: Police said that the suicide of a 21-year-old woman at her live-in partner's house was triggered by distress after he deleted her Instagram account. The deceased has been identified as Anjana Satheesh, daughter of Satheesh and Ambika of Cheriyavelinalloor.

Anjana was found hanging in the bedroom of her live-in partner Nihas’s house at around 8 am on Wednesday.

Nihas and Anjana had grown close while studying together at a school in Oyoor Roadvila. Five months ago, they eloped, but were traced by Pooyappally police following a complaint from Anjana’s relatives. In court, Anjana expressed her willingness to live with Nihas, after which she stayed at his house.

A week ago, Nihas had bought Anjana a phone. While searching for work-from-home jobs on Instagram, she reportedly received inappropriate comments, which she shared with Nihas. On Tuesday night, after returning from work, Nihas went to a friend’s birthday celebration and came back around midnight. Soon after, he deleted her Instagram account. This led to an argument between the two, though Nihas later told police no serious quarrel had taken place.

Suicide on the day of pregnancy test

On the day of the incident, Nihas was supposed to take Anjana for a pregnancy test at the hospital. After leaving home early in the morning for work and assigning duties to a substitute on his bus, Nihas returned home around 8 a.m., only to find Anjana dead.

The body was shifted to Parippally Government Medical College Hospital for postmortem and later handed over to relatives. Chadayamangalam police have registered a case and started an investigation. Police have recorded the statement of Nihas’s mother, who was present at home at the time of the incident.
