Mar Ivanios Platinum Jubilee Celebration: They came together to reminisce sweet memories
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: 'Stop the price hike of Thailam and Kuzhambu... Reduce the fees of children..." slogans of the alumni protest leaders rang out in the corridors of Mar Ivanios College. The protest period was reenacted at the 'Echoes of Yesterday' alumni meet held as part of the college's platinum jubilee celebrations. Forgetting the colour of the flag and differences of opinion, they lined up under one roof.
The teacher George Onakkoor and the principal, who were conducting the class, agreed that the demands of the strike were justified and announced that they were ending the classes. The protest leaders chased away the students who were reluctant to go out. It was then that they received information that the class was being held secretly in the English department. The students who were sitting in the class were removed from there and the protest committee held a celebration at the old 'Pancharamukku' of Ivanios. The protest leaders were former students Aby George, Nandalal, B. Sunil, Anees Hassan, Beenish Kodiyeri, Juni Thomas, Ambili Jacob and others.
Jagathy happy with Kilukkam
The cultural programs were inaugurated by Jagathy Sreekumar, who is also an alumnus of the college. When Jagathy arrived on the stage, the theme music from the movie 'Kilukkam' was played in the background. The entire audience turned on their mobile flash. Cardinal Mar Baselios Cleemis Catholicos honoured the former teachers. A song based on the history of the college, written by alumni Aby George and composed by Rony Raphael, was sung by the alumni from the steps of Mar Ivanios. A rally of vintage cars that took place from Kowdiar Palace to the college was inaugurated by royal family member Aditya Varma.
