Rain with thunderstorms likely in Kerala till Wednesday; alert issued for four districts including Ernakulam tomorrow
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department has warned of the possibility of rain with thundershowers in isolated places in Kerala from today to Wednesday. In view of the increasing rain, IMD has issued a yellow alert in four districts tomorrow. A yellow alert has been issued for Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Kasaragod districts. The forecast predicts the possibility of isolated heavy rain.
Heavy rain is defined as a situation where 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain is expected in 24 hours. The Meteorological Department has informed that there is a possibility of light rain in isolated places in the next three hours. There is no special alert in any district today. IMD informed that there is no restriction on fishing today along the Kerala - Karnataka - Lakshadweep coasts.
Today, strong winds gusting to 45 to 55 kmph, sometimes reaching speeds of 65 kmph, are likely over the southwest Arabian Sea, adjoining west-central Arabian Sea and adjoining northwest Arabian Sea. Strong winds gusting to 40 to 50 kmph, sometimes reaching speeds of 60 kmph, and bad weather are likely over the southwest Bay of Bengal, adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, south Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar and Kanyakumari area, the Meteorological Department said.
