Murder of Thankarajan and his wife Agnes: Son's revenge for not approving his love and getting him married
ALAPPUZHA: Babu says he killed his parents out of spite for not getting his marriage arranged. Thankarajan (71) and his wife Agnes (69), residents of Mannath ward in Alappuzha, were stabbed to death at around 9:30 pm on Thursday. Babu was arrested and remanded in custody by the court.
Babu had a love affair while working at a vegetable shop in the city. He had asked permission for this marriage, but Agnes refused. Babu expected another marriage, but this did not happen either. He used to drink daily and make a fuss at home due to this. Babu used to come to the house and the house where his sister Manju and her family lived to ask for money to drink. Babu stabbed Agnes with a knife from the kitchen when she did not give him a hundred rupees when he asked for it. Thankarajan was stabbed while trying to stop the attack. Thankarajan died immediately. The neighbours did not pay attention since there were frequent fights and racket in the house. The incident came to light when Babu went to the next house and said that his father was dead and his mother was alive, and that if an ambulance was called to take her to the hospital, he could save her. Babu also called his sister on the phone. After this, Babu went to a bar on his bicycle to drink again, and the police arrested him from there.
Babu was a little saddened by the death of Thangarajan. After putting Thangarajan's body in his lap, he went out and told his sister and the neighbours about the incident. The small knife used for murder was found during the police inspection of the house in Mannath ward, where the murder took place. District Police Chief M.P. Mohanachandran visited the scene. The accused was brought to the scene yesterday afternoon, and evidence was collected.
After the postmortem was conducted at Alappuzha Medical College, the bodies of Thankarajan and Agnes were taken to their daughter Manju's Kakuzhi house in Kalath ward. The funeral was held at the Latin Church in the evening. Due to Babu's violence, Thankarajan and Agnes spent most of the day at Manju's house. They used to come to their own house only when Manju's husband, who is a soldier, returned home.
Babu without regrets
Babu's behaviour in the hospital and the police station was without any change of expression. He was at the station smiling. The police said that he did not have any mental problems. The accused was behaving without any regret because he was intoxicated.
