Peerumedu MLA Vazhoor Soman dies after collapsing during revenue meeting

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Peerumedu MLA Vazhoor Soman (72) passed away on Thursday after collapsing during a meeting held in Thiruvananthapuram. He was 72.

The MLA collapsed while attending a program at the Institute of Land and Disaster Management in PTP Nagar. He was taken to the hospital in Revenue Minister K Rajan's vehicle. He is a native of Vazhoor in Kottayam district.

The MLA was admitted to Sree Ramakrishna Hospital in Sasthamangalam, where he breathed his last while undergoing treatment. Doctors cited the death to be due to a heart attack. The MLA was hurried to the hospital in Revenue Minister K Rajan's vehicle.

Vazhoor Soman, the senior CPI leader, was known for his valiant fight seeking justice for labourers in the high-range regions of Idukki. Soman became Peerumedu MLA after winning by a majority of 1835 votes. His opponent was UDF candidate Advocate Cyriac Thomas. He has held the posts of Chairman of the Warehousing Corporation and State Vice President of AITUC. Wife: Bindu. Children: Advocate Sobin, Advocate Sobit.

The body will be kept at MN Smarakam in Thiruvananthapuram from 7 pm on Thursday for the public to pay homage.
