THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that all entitlement documents and certificates in the state will be linked to DigiLocker. He was speaking at the official declaration held at Thiruvananthapuram Central Stadium, announcing Kerala as the first fully digitally literate state in the country.

As part of the second phase of the Digital Kerala project, land documents and certificates will be digitised and integrated with DigiLocker, making Kerala the first state in India to achieve this milestone as well. The next phase will also include training programmes aimed at preventing cybercrimes and tackling the misuse of social media.

"At present, about 900 government services have been made available online. In addition, services are provided through K-SMART. Citizens can now get documents like birth and income certificates and even file complaints with the police without visiting offices. NRIs can also access services without traveling home. This is the real Kerala Story,” said the Chief Minister.

Minister M.B. Rajesh presided over the function. He said that while “Digital India” remains just a slogan in many places, Kerala has achieved it in reality.

The complete digital literacy report was handed over by Minister M.B. Rajesh to District Panchayat President D. Suresh Kumar. Digi Kerala’s second phase was presented by Special Secretary Adeel Abdullah. The project document was handed over by Infosys co-founder and former CEO S.D. Shibulal to Special Secretary T.V. Anupama. Ministers V. Sivankutty, G.R. Anil, K. Krishnankutty, A.K. Saseendran, Chief Secretary Dr. V. Jayathilak, Mayor Arya Rajendran, Department Director Apoorva Tripathi, Principal Director Jeromic George, Corporation Councillor V. Harikumar and others attended the event.

Video call and selfie

At the venue, the Chief Minister held a video call with Abdullah Maulavi Bafakhi, a 105-year-old from Ashamannoor, Ernakulam, who achieved digital literacy. “The government’s strength comes from the blessings and support of people like you,” the CM said during the call. Later, 75-year-old learners from the project—Sharada Kani and Vishalakshi from Thiruvananthapuram—took a selfie with the Chief Minister.
