'No court has a heart, why didn't you kill me as well?'; Udaya Kumar's mother breaks down into tears
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Prabhavathi, the mother of Udaya Kumar, broke down in tears after the High Court acquitted all the policemen accused in the Fort station custodial death case. The elderly mother, who cried out after hearing the court verdict, asked why the judges had not killed her along with her son. The court acquitted all five surviving accused, pointing to serious lapses in the CBI investigation. One of the accused had died earlier.
“My son was brutally murdered. I have no strength to go to court again. I have no one to seek help from. I don’t understand how the accused were freed when there were no flaws in the investigation. Everyone worked together to release them. Otherwise, how could they have been acquitted so quickly? Someone is behind this. They must be punished, that is my only demand. No court has a heart. Tell me what I should do now,” Prabhavathi said.
The High Court acquitted the accused by pointing out that the CBI had failed to produce sufficient evidence. The death sentence awarded by the CBI court to the first accused has also been set aside. The case involved six accused policemen, including officers of the ranks of DySP, SP, ASI and CPO. ASI K. Jithakumar, the first accused, and CPO S.V. Sreekumar, the second accused, had been sentenced to death by the Thiruvananthapuram special CBI court, but the verdict has now been overturned.
