Rains predicted in state again, four districts on orange alert, very heavy rains likely
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert in various districts today in view of the possibility of very heavy rainfall in the state. The orange alert is for Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. Very heavy rainfall has been predicted. The IMD means that rainfall ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm is expected in 24 hours. A yellow alert has also been issued in various districts for the next three days.

The IMD defines heavy rain as a situation where 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain is received in 24 hours. Expected impacts
- There is a possibility of waterlogging on major roads and blurred visibility in vehicles, leading to traffic congestion.
- Waterlogging and flooding are possible in low-lying areas and river banks.
- Falling trees may lead to power outages and accidents.
