Unexpected twist in incident where lady cop cleared way for ambulance; probe reveals there was no patient inside ambulance, driver faces charges
THRISSUR: The incident where a woman police officer cleared traffic for an ambulance, earning widespread praise on social media, has taken an unexpected turn. The clip, which showed Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Aparna Lavakumar of the Thrissur City Women’s Police Station running ahead of an ambulance and directing motorists to make way, was widely shared online and even featured on the official Kerala Police Facebook page. Thrissur City Police Commissioner R. Ilango had praised Aparna and announced a “Good Service Entry” for her act.
However, a subsequent inquiry by the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) revealed that no patient was inside the ambulance at the time of the incident. The probe was initiated after officials spotted the ambulance driver holding a phone in the side mirror, raising suspicion that he may have recorded the video himself. Subsequently, the MVD took both the driver and the vehicle into custody.
The driver, Faisal has been booked for using a mobile phone while driving. He denied filming the video himself, claiming he did not use his phone while behind the wheel. He further clarified that the ambulance had no patient on board and that its siren was not switched on. According to him, the siren heard in the viral reels had been added later through editing. Faisal also said he was not given an opportunity to explain the situation earlier.
