Amoebic encephalitis confirmed in state again, 10-year-old boy undergoing treatment in Kozhikode Medical College

KOZHIKODE: Amoebic encephalitis has been confirmed in the state again. A 10-year-old boy has been diagnosed with the disease. The boy is undergoing treatment at Kozhikode Medical College. The tests conducted yesterday had turned positive. A three-month-old baby who was undergoing treatment for amoebic encephalitis in Kozhikode, had died the other day. The dead was Mohammed Ahil, son of Abdul Siddique and Mainuna of Omassery Kaniyampuram.

Kannethu Ramla (52) from Kappil, Cherur, Kannamangalam, Malappuram, and Anaya, daughter of Sanoop from Anappara, Thamarassery, had died of the disease on August 15. Anaya's siblings, who were confirmed to have the disease, are undergoing treatment. The three deaths occurred while the health department was on high alert on the brain eating amoeba. It is reported that 10 people are currently undergoing treatment at Kozhikode Medical College. It is also reported that the health condition of two is very serious. Medical College Principal Dr Sajith Kumar had said that the infected people are being given proper treatment.

Meanwhile, a relief is that a 17-year-old boy who was in a critical condition due to rare amoebic encephalitis and Aspergillus flavus fungal brain infection has returned to life. This is the first time in the world that a person suffering from two very rare brain infections has survived together.
