Land reclassification to become free; Govt mulling new amendment
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Land reclassification will henceforth be free up to 25 cents. However, the applicant will be taken for a ride. To avoid this, the government decided to simplify the procedures. The Revenue Department will soon bring an amendment to the rules. With this, the accumulation of applications will be a procedure of the past.
Minister K. Rajan suggested preparing the amendment to the rules in the Revenue Secretariat meeting held the other day.
The RDO/Deputy Collector will grant free reclassification based on the report submitted by the Village Officer. The villain is the unnecessary collection of information included in the proforma for preparing the report. This will be avoided. Instead, the report will be prepared by incorporating the information in the Thandapper (a 12-digit unique identification number for landholdings) Register and revenue records.
Village officers usually spent most time preparing the proforma. The application has to be made online. In addition to the information the village officer has to add, another one has to be filled under the name of land-related. At least 12 pieces of information have to be recorded.
The questions will vary depending on the nature of each area. More information will have to be recorded in paddy field areas. Is there any land that has been filled? Are there trees that are more than 10 years old? Are there buildings? If so, their age, has the place received a stop memo...? The questions will go like this.
