Whopping Onam for BEVCO; Rs 920.74 crore worth of liquor sold, Tirur outlet tops list

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the 11 days of Onam sale after Atham, Bevco saw an increase in profit of Rs 78.67 crore compared to the previous year. This time, Bevco sold liquor worth a whopping Rs 920.74 crore. Last year, it was Rs 824.07 crores worth of sales during Onam. This is an increase of 9.34 per cent. On Thiruvonam day, liquor shops except bars were closed. The highest sales were on Uthradam day - Rs 137.64 crore. Last year, on Uthradam day, it was Rs 126.01 crore. On Avittam day, sales worth Rs 94.36 crore were made. (Last year, it was Rs 65.25 crore).

The Tirur shop in Malappuram district achieved the highest sales in 11 days, Rs 6.41 crore. The shops in Karunagappally (6.40 crore) in Kollam district and Kuttippala Edappal (6.19 crore) in Malappuram district came in second and third, respectively. The shops in Powerhouse Road (Thiruvananthapuram), Chalakudy (Thrissur) and Kavanad (Kollam) also achieved sales of over 5 crores.

Onam Sales

August 25 (66.88 crores), 26 – (64.61), 27 – (73.75), 28 – (55.61), 29 – (80.41), 30 – (85.54), 31 – (74.99), September 2-(90.43), 3 – (96.52), 4 – (137.64), 6 – (94.36).

In the current financial year, Bevco has paid Rs 7976.15 crore in taxes to the government so far. From April 2 to September 6, liquor sales worth Rs 9,058.32 crore were made. This was Rs 8,390.69 crore in the same period of the previous financial year. There was an increase of Rs 667.63 crore. At the current rate, the total turnover may reach a record of Rs 20,000 crore by the end of the financial year. There will also be a huge jump in tax revenue.

From April 2 to September 6, Bevco retail outlets sold 78.29 lakh cases of Indian-made foreign liquor, compared to 73.67 lakh cases last year. In the case of beer, it was 20.20 (18.61) lakh cases.
