Young doctor arrested in Kochi with MDMA
KOCHI: A young doctor was arrested in Kaloor after being found in possession of 0.38 grams of MDMA. The arrested person has been identified as Dr Amjad Ahsan (30), a native of Vadakkekkara, North Paravur. Amjad, who completed his MBBS in Ukraine, had worked at a call centre in a government hospital in Kochi during the COVID-19 pandemic. He later worked at a private hospital in the city. He told the police that he is currently not employed in any hospital. He was previously booked by the Palarivattom police for drug use.
The arrest was carried out by a DANSAF team led by Narcotics Cell ACP K. A. Abdulsalam, under the supervision of DCPs Aswathi Jiji and Juvanapudi Mahesh, acting on the directions of City Police Commissioner Putta Vimaladitya.
Meanwhile, Ernakulam General Hospital clarified that reports claiming the arrested doctor was working there were false. Superintendent Dr. R. Shahirsha stated in a press release that Amjad has never worked at the General Hospital. He had only served at the COVID call centre in 2019–20, which had no connection to the hospital. The superintendent said such misleading reports only defame the institution and negatively impact the morale of its staff.
