Woman falls into pothole, run over by lorry
MANGALURU: A woman died in an accident that happened on the national highway 66 near Kulur in Mangaluru. The dead is Madhavi (44) of Udupi. She died after her scooter hit a pothole on the road and then run over by a lorry.
The accident happened when Madhavi was driving to work. The scooter fell into a pothole on the road near Goldfinch City Grounds between Kulur and Bangra Kulur. Her scooter lost balance after hitting a pothole near the Kulur flyover. Madhavi was flung onto the road and a lorry coming from behind ran over her, killing her on the spot. Madhavi was working at AJ Hospital in Kundikana.
Locals said that Madhavi is the fifth person to die after falling into a pothole on the road. Many people fall into the pothole every day and get into accidents. Locals complain that the authorities are not ready to close the potholes on the road despite complaining several times. However, after Madhavi's death, the authorities came and filled the potholes on the road. A case has been registered against the National Highways Authority of India officials and the lorry driver in connection with the woman's death. The Mangaluru North Traffic Police has registered a case and is investigating.
