False case against former CPM MLA's son, battered for preventing heart patient from getting assaulted: Complaints pouring in against Kerala police
AMBALAPPUZHA: More complaints are being filed against the police, alleging that they framed people in false cases and assaulted them for no reason. Praveen Sadashivan, son of former CPM MLA CK Sadashivan, has alleged that he was framed in a false case for a dispute with the car showroom staff, and Niyaz, a native of Punnapra Kuravanthodu, has come forward, alleging that the police assaulted him for no reason. Niyaz approached the court with video footage of the assault.
Praveen Sadashivan said that he was framed in a false case after he had an argument with the staff at Arattuvazhy showroom on the 2nd of this month regarding a defect in the vehicle he had purchased six months ago. "The Alappuzha North police, who arrived at the scene as informed by the showroom authorities, pulled me into a police vehicle and hit me in the stomach. Despite the showroom staff's request not to file a case, they summoned the manager to the station and threatened him into signing a complaint against me. The new vehicle has been impounded at the station for the past ten days. The police taunted me that the vehicle would lie here and rust," Praveen said.
Brutal thrashing for stopping the assault of a heart patient
Niyaz said that he, who is also a kidney patient, was brutally assaulted in a police jeep because he tried to stop the police from thrashing a man named Muhammad Shafi, who is a heart patient. The incident took place on January 30. "I intervened when I saw the Punnapra police who arrived there after a clash between activists of a youth organization and locals in the Kuravanthodu area arresting Shafi and assaulting him. The police brutally thrashed me on the charge of obstructing work. The police arrested the two youths who questioned this. They were made accused two and three," said Niyaz.
Niyaz filed a complaint against CI Stepto John, CPOs Sumit and Harikrishnan in the Sessions Court, Human Rights Commission, Police Complaints Authority and District Police Chief.
