Cloudbursts in Dehradun, vehicles, houses washed away, two missing
DEHRADUN: Two people are missing in the cloudburst that struck Uttarakhand’s Dehradun. The cloudburst hit Tuesday early morning. Houses, buildings in several places have suffered extensive damages. The district administration said that many locals have been evacuated from their homes and shifted to safer places. The search for the two missing are going on. Officials including the district magistrate reached the spot as soon as the incident was reported.
Following the cloudburst, the Chandrabhaga River in Rishikesh is overflowing. Three people were trapped in the river as the water overflowed on the national highway. They were shifted to a safe place by rescue workers. NDRF, SDRF and PWD officials are engaged in the rescue operations. As per the order issued by the district magistrate, schools from classes 1 to 12 in Dehradun have been declared holiday in view of the heavy rain and cloudburst.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami wrote on social media platform X that he is in constant touch with the local administration and is personally monitoring the situation. The chief minister said that some shops were also damaged due to heavy rains in Sahastradhara, Dehradun. Heavy damages were reported in Uttarakhand due to continuous cloudbursts and flash floods.
