V D Satheesan announces indefinite hunger strike until cops are terminated

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan agreed to suspend assembly proceedings to debate an adjournment motion on custodial torture. The debate is going on in the assembly. Opposition leader V D Satheesan said the police in Kerala are shameless. This is not Stalin's Russia, but democratic Kerala. Satheesan also demanded the chief minister to step down from the home department.

Satheesan alleged that the government is encouraging the corrupt in the police. The entire police are complicit in the corruption. Satheesan said the police are afraid of the area and district secretaries. He also listed the Kunnamkulam, Peechi and Peroorkada incidents in the house.

The cops responsible for the Kunnamkulam case should be dismissed from service. The strike will continue until then. Satheesan said that he is asking the chief minister whether he will dismiss them from service or not. An indefinite hunger strike will be staged at the entrance of the assembly until the policemen are dismissed from service. Satheesan said that they are not waiting for the long speech of the chief minister. We are waiting for action. Opposition MLAs Saneesh Kumar and AKM Ashraf will be on hunger strike.

The debate on the adjournment motion will last for two hours. The resolution was moved by Roji M John. 20 minutes have been allotted for the reply. Roji began his speech by quoting a speech of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the assembly on the police brutality he faced years ago. Roji said that when the same Pinarayi Vijayan is the chief minister, the police under him are now brutally harassing people, including youth congress leaders.
