Proud moment for Malayalees; Presentation of 71st national film award begins, Mohanlal among audience
NEW DELHI: The presentation of the 71st national film awards has started. The awards are being presented by President Droupadi Murmu at the function held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. Along with the National Film Awards, Mohanlal will receive the Dada Saheb Phalke Award, the highest honour in the film industry. Mohanlal, Shah Rukh Khan and Urvashi are among those in the audience.
Malayalam cinema won five awards this time. Urvashi won the best supporting actress for her performance in Ullozhukku and Vijayaraghavan won the award for the best supporting actor for Pookkaalam. Ullozhukku, directed by Christo Tomy, won the award for the best Malayalam film. Art director Mohandas Pallakkotti won the best production design award for the film 2018. Midhun Murali won the award for the best editor for Pookkaalam.
The best actor award is shared by Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan for Jawan and actor Vikrant Massey (Twelfth Fail). This is Shah Rukh's first national award and the best actress award goes to Rani Mukerji (Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway). The best film is Vidhu Vinod Chopra's Twelfth Fail.
The supporting actor award is shared by Somu Bhaskar ('Parking', Tamil) with Vijayaraghavan and Janki Bodiwala ('Vamsh', Gujarati) with Urvashi. The best popular film is Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani (Hindi).
