Malayali opener included, new vice captain; Agarkar announces Indian test squad for West Indies series
MUMBAI: BCCI announced the Indian cricket team for the Test series against the West Indies. Malayali player Devdutt Padikkal found a place in the team led by Shubman Gill. Another Malayali player, Karun Nair, was dropped from the team. Abhimanyu Easwaran, who was part of the team for the Test series against England, has been dropped. Tamil Nadu's N Jagadeesan was included as the wicketkeeper along with Dhruv Jurel in place of the injured wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant.
Ravindra Jadeja will be the vice-captain of the team. The selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, announced the team and made Jadeja the vice-captain as Rishabh Pant, who broke his leg during the England tour, is yet to fully recover. The West Indies tour of India consists of two Test matches. South Africa will be touring India later this year. Agarkar kept hopes of Rishabh Pant returning to the first team in the series scheduled against the Proteas.
