Cop on way to nab carrier of drugs killed in accident
KASARGOD: A police officer died tragically in a car accident while going for a search on drugs. The dead is senior CPO Sajeesh of the DANSAF squad of Bekal DySP. The accident happened Friday morning at 2.45 am at Chengala fourth Mile.
The Melparambu police had seized the drugs being smuggled in a car at 4:30 pm last evening. Ahmed Kabir of Chattanchal was arrested in the case. However, another accused, Dr Muneer of Kannur had escaped. Sajeesh and his team were going to Kasargod following information that Muneer was there. While entering the service road from the south side of the 4th Mile Underpass, a tipper lorry heading to Kasaragod from the Cherkala side hit their vehicle.
Civil Police Officer Subhash, who was with Sajeesh, was also injured in the accident. Subhash is undergoing treatment at the E K Nayanar Hospital in Chengala. The police have registered a case against the lorry driver for reckless driving. Sajeesh's body will be kept at the district police headquarters for public viewing tomorrow after postmortem.
He leaves behind his wife Shiny and children Diya and Devanandan.
