Thiruvananthapuram Collector criticized for declaring holiday late
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the wake of heavy rains in the capital city, the Thiruvananthapuram district collector declared a holiday for educational institutions in Thiruvananthapuram at 6:30 am. This caused a lot of inconvenience to the students. The children came to know about the holiday only after they left in their school buses.
Heavy rains have been lashing the capital city since yesterday. Roads including Thampanoor have been flooded. Despite such a situation, there is strong criticism against the delay in declaring the holiday. Many have commented under the Collector’s Facebook post announcing the holiday, expressing their anger.
'Sir, wasn't you here in this city yesterday?', 'you could have declared the holiday after some time,’ ‘is the holiday announced after children getting ready for school,’ ‘if it had been announced in the afternoon, things could have been done conveniently,’ ‘I searched for the news even before waking up my child at 6.15 am. The update was five minutes before the school bus came,’ ‘rains started Wednesday night…raining heavily even now…declaring holiday after children going to school is a regular announcement... It's sad that the collector was not there despite the heavy rains for two nights and yesterday', and 'Madam, did you wake up just now.' Ponmudi closed Due to adverse weather conditions, Ponmudi Eco Tourism will be closed from today until further notice, informed Thiruvananthapuram Divisional Forest Officer.
