Youth discharged from hospital dies; Toll in Karur tragedy touches 40
CHENNAI: The toll in the Karur stampede that broke out during a rally organized by TVK leader and actor Vijay on Saturday has touched 40. The latest person died has been identified as Kavin of Karur. Kavin admitted in the hospital following injuries sustained in the stampede was discharged from the hospital today. After reaching home, he suffered chest pain and was admitted to a private hospital. His life could not be saved and his death was confirmed aa few minutes back. Nine children are among the dead. 111 people are under treatment and of that, the condition of two is stated to be serious.
Meantime, the police have registered a case against TVK leaders in the Karur tragedy. The case has been registered after imposing four charges including culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Soon after the case was recorded, leaders including party’s general secretary Bussy Anand are absconding. The leaders were with Vijay till he left the place.
In the wake of the tragedy, Vijay has suspended his state rally. Vijay announced a compensation of Rs 20 lakh for the families of the dead and Rs 2 lakh for the injured. He has also promised all help. TVK has approached the court demanding an independent investigation into the incident.
