Athulya suicide case: Court cancels anticipatory bail of husband Satheesh
KOLLAM: The Kollam Principal Sessions Court has cancelled the anticipatory bail of S Satheesh, husband of Athulya from Thevalakkara, who was found dead in her Sharjah apartment. Judge NV Raju withdrew the relief after examining video footage that revealed Satheesh abusing Athulya while intoxicated.
Satheesh, a native of Sasthamkotta, surrendered before the Crime Branch office in Kollam and was remanded. He will be taken into custody within two days for interrogation. Earlier, Chavara Thekumbhagam Police had charged him with murder, but the court noted there was no prima facie evidence of homicide. The initial postmortem in Sharjah concluded that Athulya died by suicide, which was the basis for granting him anticipatory bail.
However, a re-postmortem conducted at Parippally Medical College Hospital found 46 injuries on Athulya’s body. The Crime Branch also produced video clips in court showing Satheesh abusing her.
Although the family had submitted older videos, the court observed that they still proved Athulya had been subjected to brutal violence. The court, however, expressed disappointment that Satheesh had not been charged with abetment to suicide.
Athulya, daughter of Koyivila family in Thevalakkara, was found dead in her flat near Rolla Park, Sharjah, on July 19.
