'CBI probe needed in Karur tragedy'; Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's official residence receives bomb threat
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Another bomb threat reached the residence of Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday. In the threat that arrived through email, the anonymous sender demanded a CBI investigation into the tragedy at Karur. The email claims that the stampede was the handiwork of a political party to gain acceptance ahead of the assembly elections.
The threatening email names police officers and DMK leaders as culprits. The sender threatened to plant a bomb at the Kerala CM’s residence if a CBI investigation in Karur is not initiated. An investigation was also started to track the location of the sender.
41 people died in the stampede that took place in Karur during a rally participated by actor turned politician Vijay as part of promoting the ideologies of his new political outfit, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. The Tamil Nadu government had set up a judicial commission to investigate the Karur tragedy.
