KASARGOD: Mystery is looming over the incident in which a couple committed suicide the other day in Manjeshwaram by consuming poison. The deceased are Ajith (35), a painting worker in Kadambar, and Shwetha (27), a private school teacher. According to locals, the couple had borrowed money from several people. Some videos have surfaced showing moneylenders beating Shwetha on the road. The video shows two women, who arrived on a scooter, beating Shwetha. Police are conducting a probe to identify these women.

Meanwhile, Ajith's sister claims that her brother did not have any financial difficulties. The police have currently registered a case of unnatural deaths. The officials said that charges of abetment to suicide will be filed if the couple's relatives lodge a complaint. Police have also learned that some people allegedly threatened the couple after repayments to a private financial institution were delayed.

Shwetha worked at a private school in Kadambar. Her colleagues said that she was very much active in all activities in the school and that she had never told them about her financial issues. On Monday afternoon, Ajith took Shwetha and their son to his sister’s house in Bandiyod. After spending some time there, Ajith and Shwetha reportedly left their son at the sister's home, saying they had to go somewhere. Later, they returned home and consumed poison.
