OJ Janeesh replaces Rahul Mamkootathil as Youth Congress president: Binu Chulliyil elected as working president
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: OJ Janeesh has been elected as the state president of the Youth Congress. He has been the vice president of the state Youth Congress since 2023. The state leadership unanimously recommended Janeesh as the president of the Youth Congress. The leadership elected the new president after Rahul Mamkootathil resigned following controversies.
KM Abhijith is the national general secretary. Binu Chulliyil was elected as the working president. Abin Varkey and KM Abhijith were elected as the national secretaries of the Youth Congress. Binu Chulliyil, Abin Varkey and KM Abhijith were also nominated for the post of president apart from Janeesh.
A native of Thrissur, Janeesh became active in politics through KSU. He was the president of the KSU unit at Perumbavoor Polytechnic. In 2007, he became the president of KSU Mala constituency and in 2012, he became the vice president of KSU Thrissur district. In 2017, Janeesh became the KSU Thrissur district president. From 2010 to 2012, he was the vice president of Youth Congress Kodungallur constituency. Janeesh also served as the youth congress Thrissur district president from 2020-23.
KC Venugopal was actively interested in electing Binu Chulliyil and Ramesh Chennithala for Abin Varkey. MK Raghavan and others were actively interested in KM Abhijith. The fact that Janeesh contested for the post of president in the last organisation election was a favourable factor for the new state president.
