THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KPCC President Sunny Joseph responded to the public fulmination of Abin Varkey, after he refused to take up his new role as Youth Congress national secretary. Sunny Joseph said it was an opportunity for Abin to work across the nation by remaining in Kerala. Sunny Joseph cited K C Venugopal’s work as an example and asked Abin to emulate it. The KPCC president’s response came while attending a meeting in Thrithala.

Abin Varkey had expressed his dissatisfaction to the media that he wanted to continue as the Youth Congress Vice President rather than a national duty.

Abin Varkey:

“The national leadership of the Youth Congress has made a decision. I started my public work as the constituency secretary of the Youth Congress. Later, I became the KSU unit president. I even became the vice president of the Youth Congress. I owe the most to Rahul Gandhi for whatever good that happened to me in politics. People, including me, came through the democratic election process.

I don’t know if it was my Christian identity that restricted me from the top post in the state Youth Congress. It is for the party leadership to clarify.

I got an address only because of the tag ‘Congress’ associated with me. I keep the party in deep respect, and so I will not do anything indecent to taint the party’s name. Congress is on the verge of a big battle in Kerala.”
