Heavy rains predicted, districts alerted, black sea phenomenon likely
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rain is predicted in the state today. In the next three hours, moderate rain with thundershowers and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph are likely in isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram and Kozhikode. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that light rain is also likely in isolated places in all other districts.
Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Malappuram and Kozhikode are on yellow alert today. The possibility of isolated heavy rain is predicted. Heavy rain is defined as a situation where 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain is expected in 24 hours.
Black sea phenomenon alert As part of the black sea phenomenon, there will be high waves of 1.0 to 1.1 meters on the coasts of Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam (from Alappuzha to Edava) till 11.30 pm tomorrow and a possibility of sea erosion due to high waves of 1.0 to 1.2 meters along the coasts from Neerody to Arokiapuram in Kanyakumari, informed the National Centre for Oceanographic Studies and Research (INCOIS).
Fishermen alert
There is no restriction on fishing along the Kerala - Karnataka - Lakshadweep coasts today. The IMD has informed that fishermen should not venture in the sea along the Kerala- Lakshadweep coasts from tomorrow to Saturday.
