Central scheme for charging stations across country; Anert prepares plan for 3600 charging stations in Kerala

KOCHI: The Union Ministry of Heavy Industries approved setting up electric vehicle charging stations across the country for Rs 2,000 crore. The amount will be distributed among the states upon request. A subsidy of up to 100 per cent will be provided. The order was issued on September 25.

The Additional Chief Secretary has recommended Anert as the nodal agency for implementation in Kerala, but KSEB is also in the fray. Anert plans to set up 3,600 charging machines for Rs 300 crore. 2,000 machines for two-wheelers, 1,300 machines of 50-150 kW for cars, and 300 machines of 240-500 kW for buses and trucks.

The subsidy is being provided in three categories. The electricity distribution companies in the respective states will have to provide the facility. Subcontracting may be given. A unified application centre, known as the National Unified Hub, will be established.

Category A: 100 per cent subsidy for installation of charging stations in government offices and institutions.

Category B: 80 per cent infrastructure subsidy for installation at railway stations, metro stations, KSRTC bus stands and airports and 70 per cent subsidy for the machine.

Category C: 80 per cent subsidy for infrastructure only at private places.
