Vijay not to visit Karur today; will not disrupt CBI probe, says TVK leaders

CHENNAI: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay will not visit Karur today. The decision is in the backdrop of the CBI probe being initiated. TVK leaders said they will not disrupt the CBI investigation. There were reports earlier that Vijay would visit Karur today and meet the families of the dead.

TVK's office in Chennai reopened the other day. The party headquarters was closed after the Karur tragedy that claimed 41 lives. The tragedy occurred during Vijay's rally on September 27. All the party's programmes were cancelled after 41 lost their lives in the stampede.

Vijay is presently at his residence in Pattinapakkam. Vijay held discussions with important TVK leaders including Bussy Anand, Aadav Arjun, C T R Nirmal Kumar and Arun. This is the first wide discussion after the Karur tragedy. The leaders have decided to move forward with their organizational activities.

TVK had earlier welcomed the Supreme Court order ordering a CBI inquiry into the Karur tragedy. Party sources also said that they will fully cooperate with the investigation led by the CBI.

Among the 41, 34 are from Karur, two each from Erode, Tirupur and Dindigul and one person from Salem.
