Jumped into lake following dispute with her boyfriend; local youth and govt staff save woman from drowning

KOLLAM: A 22-year-old woman from Kanjirappally, Kottayam, attempted suicide by jumping into a lake the other day. The incident took place near the Ashramam Link Road bridge. The woman, who is attending a bank coaching class in Kollam, reportedly tried to end her life following a dispute with her boyfriend. She revealed this while recording her statement with the police.

A local youth who saw her jump into the lake tried to save her but began to drown himself. Both were rescued by staff members of the Water Transport Department who were passing by in a boat at the time.

A local named Rajesh was the first to notice the woman jumping into the water. He immediately called his friend Muneer for help. Upon arriving at the spot, Muneer jumped into the lake and tried to lift the woman by holding her hair, attempting to reach one of the bridge pillars. However, he too started to struggle in the water. Seeing this, a staff member from the passing government boat jumped in and successfully rescued both of them. Police arrived at the scene soon after being informed of the incident.
