Red alert in three districts, Ernakulam warned: IMD issues heavy rainfall alert in Kerala
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As per reports, rains will intensify in the state from Wednesday. A red alert has been issued for the Idukki, Palakkad, and Malappuram districts tomorrow. An orange alert has also been issued for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, and Wayanad districts. The Meteorological Department has also issued a yellow alert for the Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts.
A low-pressure area has formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal. It is expected to intensify into a severe depression in the next 36 hours. IMD said that the depression in the Arabian Sea is likely to intensify into a severe depression in the next 24 hours. The Central Meteorological Department also raised the possibility of rain with thundershowers and strong winds with a speed of 30 to 40 kmph till October 24.
Meanwhile, the Central Water Commission issued a yellow alert for the Karamana (Vellaikadavu station) river in the Thiruvananthapuram district. Under no circumstances should people enter or cross the river. Those living near the coast are advised to be vigilant. The Central Meteorological Department also prohibited fishing on the coasts of Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep till October 24.
