25 killed as Volvo bus catches fire on Hyderabad-Bengaluru highway
KURNOOL: Over 25 passengers were killed after a Volvo bus hit a bike and burst into flames in Andhra Pradesh. The Volvo bus of Kaveri Travels, which was going from Hyderabad to Bengaluru, met with the accident. The incident happened Friday early morning. The bus was carrying 40 passengers and 15 were rescued. The actual number of deaths has not been officially released.
Kurnool Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patil said that the bus, which was passing through the Andhra Pradesh-Bengaluru National Highway, hit the bike. Some of the passengers escaped by breaking the glass windows after the bus caught fire. Police said that the fire has been brought under control. Meanwhile, the driver and conductor of the bus fled after the accident. The injured have been admitted to the Taluk Hospital in Kurnool. Following the accident, there was a major traffic jam on the national highway.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has expressed his condolences to the victims. He also announced vis email that the government will provide assistance to the dead. Former chief minister and YSRCP President Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy also expressed his condolences on the incident.
